Why the logo?
We wanted a logo that combines the concepts of public university, cognitive sciences, and something neuro. The building with the flag is inspired by the UNC Reform brand, a symbol of public, free, and secular higher education. It refers to the iconic photo of the 1918 student movement. In the logo, cognitive sciences are represented by the classic figure/ground concept, where we see a circle that doesn't exist. The action potential, the distinctive neurophysiological signal, completes the design. That's who we are, people from the public university doing cognitive neuroscience, or at least some versions of it.
